Cross hatch test is suitable for evaluating the adhesion of coatings on various types of glass bottles and jars with plating or painting as decorative layer on the outer surface. It allows you to effectively compare and evaluate whether the coating adheres firmly to the bottles and jars. It can meet the requirements of the production process, actual use and transportation.
Operation procedure
1.Sample Preparation
Wipe the area of the sample to be tested with a non-woven cloth to ensure that it is free of contamination. Take not less than 3 samples.
2.Test Step
- When cutting the sample to be tested, the sample should be placed on a horizontal surface. The cutting angle is approximately 45°, which provides a uniform force and stabilizes the cutting of the coating and reaches the substrate. The cutting pattern should be a grid of crosses with equal spacing, and the number of cuts in each direction is 6.
- After completing the cut, use a soft bristle brush to lightly brush the surface of the coating to remove small pieces of shared.
- Apply 3M 616 Scotch tape to the area to be tested, press the tape with your fingertips. For a good fit to the coating and the bottle or jar.
- Within 5 minutes, pull on one end of the tape and quickly pull up the tape in a 45° direction.
- Observing the test area after pulling up the tape.
3.Description of results
Grading of test samples by comparison with the test surface. In generally, the first three levels are acceptable.
